Construction Project Management

The Construction Project Management team is part of the Planning, Development and Construction department and provides support for the design and construction of buildings, additions, and renovations on the Foggy Bottom, Mount Vernon, and Virginia Science and Technology campuses, as well as renovations within off-campus leased space.

Responsibilities 

We are responsible for complete project development from inception through the first-year warranty for small and medium capital projects. Some of our main tasks include:

  • Determining client needs
  • Developing the project capital budget with the sponsoring department
  • Design management
  • Municipal permit acquisition
  • Contractor bidding
  • Construction management
  • Furniture and equipment procurement
  • Turnover to the project occupants
  • Systems training and warranty management

Additional tasks performed to support major capital projects include:

  • Assistance for capital budget development
  • Cost estimates for design
  • Life-cycle cost analyses, value engineering, design reviews, and constructability reviews
  • Assistance with warranty issues,¬†the commissioning process, and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)¬†certifications
  • Consulting and technical support for feasibility studies, engineering and forensic investigations, building condition assessments, disaster recovery, building code compliance, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), accessibility compliance campus plan compliance, contractor and consultant qualifications review, and other building-related studies and investigations
